Housing Sign-Up for New Students

Are you an incoming student? This is the page for you! Read on for instructions on how housing sign-up works.

Application Process

You’ll use the Housing and Dining Portal to start your application. Here is an overview of the parts of that process that your application will move through.

Part 1 — Roommate Questionnaire:

• If you plan to use the portal to search for possible roommates , answer the questions in the questionnaire.
• You can also write a short profile (if you do that, be sure to also check the box for Show in Search Results).
• Note: Part of the questionnaire asks for your hall preferences. This is simply so you can search for roommates who are interested in the same buildings. It does not mean that you are guaranteed housing in these buildings.

Part 2 — Affinity Communities:

• You’ll select if you are interested in either of our special affinity communities.
  
  These communities are:

• Multicultural Living Community (fir st floor of Fjelstad)
• Sexuality and Gender Inclusion (SGI) Floors (two floors in Park Region)

Part 3 — Roommate Groups:

• This is the part of the process where you will match up with your desired roommates.
• You can search for people by email or by how they answered questions in the questionnaire or have the system recommend roommates for you.
• This part is important because most of our housing selection is “occupancy match. ” This means that your roommate group must fill up the room/apartment you are selecting.
• For example, if you are matched with one roommate, you will only be able to select rooms and apartments with two beds
• If you plan to live alone, you will not select a roommate. However, remember that the number of single occupancy rooms is limited (and there are generally no single occupancy apartments unless it is approved for a medical need by Disability Services)

Part 4 — Housing Application Next Steps

• Until room selection starts on March 1 1 , that’ s all you need to do!

Room Selection Process

You’ll get more info before March 1 1 , but the general way it works is:

• You (and a roommate, if you matched up with someone) will be given a time when you can start shopping for rooms.
• You’ll see all rooms you are eligible to live in, and you can pick from any of them.
• One person in the roommate group will pick the room — or, if you are planning to live alone, you’ll pick from the available single occupancy rooms.
• After you pick a room, you can select a meal plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is required to live on campus?

• Concordia has a Four-Semester Residency Requirement. This means first- and second-year students are required to live on campus (regardless of credit status).

Who is eligible for an exemption to this Residency Requirement?

• First and second-year students who are 21, married, have a child, or are living at home with a parent/legal guardian in the Fargo-Moorhead area are eligible for an exemption.
• In very rare circumstances, other students may be exempted. Contact reslife@cord.edu to learn more.

This isn’t a question, but I really want my own room

• T here are a number of double-as-a-single rooms in the traditional residence halls.
• If you have a medical diagnosis that requires you to have your own room, you must work with Disability Services to have a special accommodation approved .

I’m a transfer student or I’m older than more first-year students.

• Depending on the circumstances, you may be eligible to sign up for a campus apartment or a room on a returning student floor. Contact reslife@cord.edu so we can assist you and make sure you have access to the correct housing options.

Which residence hall should I live in?

• Honestly, they all have their pros and cons. A lot of students find it helpful to pick the thing that matters most, and then use that to narrow down your options. Do you want to be close to a particular part of campus? Have air conditioning? Live in a building that was recently renovated? T hink about what matters most to you, and then talk it over with your admissions rep, and your potential roommates.

What if I don't pick my roommate? Or pick my room?

• You have until May 31 to pick a roommate (if applicable) and then select a room. After this date, Residence Life will select a room (and roommate) for you, based on your responses in the Housing Application.
